As a casting professional, my expertise lies at the intersection of voiceover and background. In one discipline, an actor is solely judged on their performance, while in the other, it matters almost exclusively what they look like. No matter the case, I aim to help every show succeed by finding the best people to fill each role.
While working as the background casting assistant on Season 1 of HBO’s “The Pitt,” the production requested some people who looked like they would spend time at an independent living facility for disabled adults. When presented with this challenge, I remembered a conversation I had with a woman months earlier about wanting to act with her daughter who has Down Syndrome. I called them and coordinated the necessary paperwork to be able to include them in the scene. The girl and her mother are seen walking behind the principal actors at 00:15 in the video below.
While working as an associate producer on Vivienne Medrano’s webseries “Helluva Boss,” she asked if we could contact Annie Award-winning animator Jorge R. Gutierrez about making a cameo in an episode. Gutierrez is represented by United Talent Agency’s Sarah Kowaney (and assistant Sydni Smith). Knowing this, I reached out and was able to help secure Gutierrez’s participation in the show. After his recording session, there was some additional paperwork needed to pay him, so I facilitated calling and emailing Sarah (and Sydni) regularly until it was done. View his performance as “The Farmer” below.
